Hi Anya,

Good question.
There would be absolutely no problem if HMRC published all the relevant details about our national income. Unfortunately this does not seem to be the case.

The best I've found on the website is at:
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/thelibrary/national-statistics.htm

which seems to be the data that the office of national statistics reports, rather than the 'raw data' that would contain more detail.

Usually when we know of data that we would like to visualise for 'Where Does My Money Go?', and that data is not publicly available, we have been able to ask for it through FOI, mostly to strike up a dialogue with the department and discuss our aims and intentions, but it is not so easy to do this for HMRC -- as I explain in the article.

We thought we would let other people know about these difficulties, by writing about them here, so that other people will know this is the situation -- as it is not obvious from the website:

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/about/foi.htm

I hope that goes some way to answering your question.
